PURPOSE: To prevent excess wetting of an electrode catalyst with phosphoric acid by conducting water repellent treatment to a carbon carrier. CONSTITUTION: Before a noble metal such as platinum 2 is carried on a carbon carrier 1 used in an electrode catalyst, the carbon carrier 1 is treated with low polymer of PTFE 3a as water repellent treatment, to attach the low polymer PTFE 3a to part of the surface of the carbon carrier 1. Since the carbon carrier 1 has water repellent property, excess wetting of the electrode catalyst with phosphoric acid during operation of a cell is prevented and the performance of the fuel cell is stably maintained for a long time. |
