PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize a memory buffer requirements in a player device by changing the original compression format of a compression medium stream to a different local format and converting the compression medium to another data having another storage format. SOLUTION: A set top box encodes a termination P frame as an I frame after each P frame's compression is released and reproduced, and converts a standard compression MPEG stream to a local stream. To be more concrete, after the P frame is taken out, decomposed and reproduced, it is encoded as the I frame and stored in a secondary storage device 504 in the set top box. Since this P-I conversion is executed after decompossion and reproduction of the P frame, an extra cost for decoding is unnecessary. Moreover, as there is no estimation or compensation of action necessary for compressing a single frame into the I frame, this I frame encoding is very efficiently executed. |
