PURPOSE: To obtain an induction machine comprising a stator having slots applied with an armature winding and a solid mover made of a magnetic material in which the eddy current loss is suppressed by keeping the mover at a predetermined temperature or below. CONSTITUTION: An induction motor 13 and a rotary compressor(RC) 31 are housed in a casing 11. A rotor 16 is secured to a motor shaft 14 supported by a bearing 22. A stator 18 is applied with an armature winding. The cooling unit 24 and the pump 25 in a cooler 23 are coupled through a circulation pipe 26 with cooling medium introduction pipes 27, 28 on the opposite sides of the induction motor 13. The pump 25 feeds ethyl alcohol to the induction motor 13. The ethyl alcohol flows through a gap 20 between the rotor 16 and the stator 18 to cool the rotor 16 down to -80 deg.C. Consequently, the electric resistivity of the rotor 16 decreases down to about 4.9Ωcm. Consequently, the motor output increases by about 30% as compared with a case where the rotor 16 is not cooled.
