PURPOSE: To easily focus a camera on an object intended by a photographer by selecting a range finding point out of the plural range finding feasible points according to the decided result of a decision means by a range finding means. CONSTITUTION: By a multi-point range finding part 1, the range finding result thereof is outputted to a selection part 2. By the underwater decision part 3 deciding whether the camera is used underwater or in air, the decided result thereof is outputted to the selection part 2. By the selection part 2, a focusing distance is decided according to the range finding result and the decided result. Besides, a focusing part 4 executing a focusing action by driving a photographing lens is controlled. Thus, the camera can be precisely focused on a person even when the person being the main object does not exist at a prescribed position, for example, near the center of a photographic picture frame in the air(on land). Besides, the camera can be focused on a fish being the main object in a underwater scene while the range finding result of the small objects such as suspended matters in the photographic picture frame is canceled. |
