PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the color temperature, color rendering index and service life of a metal halide lamp by charging its discharge tube having two electrodes with a specific ionizable filler. SOLUTION: A quartz glass discharge tube 2 with bottlenecked ends enclosed by a double-ended envelope 3 being evacuated is hermetically provided at both its ends by means of molybdenum foil sheets 6 and 7 with electrodes 4 and 5, which are connected to the electric terminals of ceramic bases 12 and 13 by means of lead wires 8 and 9, and sealing foil sheets 10 and 11 and short lead wires on the envelope 3. The envelope 3 is hermetically provided in its contracted portion by means of a wire strip with a getter strip 14 arranged on a metal plate in a floating manner for the manufacture of a metal halide lamp. The lamp is charged with an ionizable filler comprising Tl, Cs, Hf partly or wholly replaceable with Zr, and a rare earth element Dy and/or Gd for producing at least one type of inert gas, mercury and at least one type of halogen and halide. |
