Rotating furnace contg. a cylindrical sleeve (1), an internal refractive lining (3) and some lifting devices (4). The refractive lining is effectively continuous and the lifting devices are made of refractive blocks (5) on the surface of the lining, held against the sleeve by mechanical means (6) passing through the lining. Also claimed is a repair process for a rotating furnace as above to install or replace the lifting devices. A hole is drilled through the refractive lining, a threaded cap is welded onto the middle of the hole and the threaded end of a locking rod is placed in the cap whilst maintaining play between the nd of the rod and the sleeve. A block or refractive material is placed on the surface of the lining. This block contains more than one hole within which there is a shoulder separating a lower part and an upper part of greater dia. so the opposite end of the locking rod enters the upper part of the hole. A thrust piece is put on the rod so it presses against the shoulder when the rod is screwed onto the cap, to hold the block against the lining.
