PURPOSE: To provide a sodium battery having the capability of ensuring the external leakage of sodium or direct reaction with sulfur to hardly occur, and further ensuring high reliability and safety by connecting negative and positive electrode chambers to each other via the joint section of a negative electrode vessel and an insulation material as a barrier. CONSTITUTION: This sodium battery has a sodium ion conductive solid electrolytic tube 1 of bottomed cylindrical structure with a collar at the open end thereof, the first metallic vessel 2 laid at the open end of the tube 1 and forming a negative electrode chamber in a gap therefrom, the second metallic vessel 3 covering the external surface of the barrel section of the tube 1 and forming a positive electrode chamber in a gap therefrom, and an insulation member 4 laid between the vessels 2 and 3 for the insulation thereof. Furthermore, the internal surface of the open section of the vessel 2 at the side of the tube 1 is formed so as to come in tight contact with or come near both sides and external surface of the collar section of the tube 1. At the same time. the end of the vessel 3 is fixed to the end external surface of the vessel 2 via the insulation member 4. |
