PURPOSE: To relieve the processing burden on a microcomputer. CONSTITUTION: This sync detecting device is provided with a sync pattern detection means 41, a sector number detection means 44, a byte count 43 and a sync detection control means 45. The sync detection control means 45 releases the lock of a window signal for detecting a sync pattern when a specified data sector (≠D) is detected by a sector number detection means 44 (WNDRST), and locks the window signal when a sync signal (RSYNC) is detected matching with sync timing (SYCTMG) generated from the byte count means 43. Then, when the sync signal (RSYNC) is detected within the period of time prescribed by the locked window signal (WNDTMG), the detected sync signal (RSYNC) is validated.
