PURPOSE: To improve the workability in head production while noise generation is maintained in good state by confining the difference and ratio of the widths of first read-write gap constituting a read-write gap within a prescribed range. CONSTITUTION: The read-write core 20 and the first read-write gap constituting surface 21 of the one core of an intermediate core 40 are provided with notches 22, 23 for regulating the track width of the read-write gap G1 on both sides of the one core and are formed to have the same width as the track width. The second read-write constituting surface 42 of the other core 30 is provided with notches 34, 35 on both sides of the other core 30 in such a manner that the width thereof is made larger than the width of the read-write gap constituting surface 21. The width of the second read-write gap constituting surface 42 is set larger by #>=1μm than the width of the first read-write gap constituting surface 21 and is set 1.003 to 1.32 times the width of the first read-write gap constituting surface 21. The workability in head production is thereby remarkably improved while the noise generation is maintained in good state.
