PURPOSE: To provide a spell checking device with which suitable candidates suggesting proper spelling can be presented to a user with high priority. CONSTITUTION: Concerning the spell checking device provided with a check means 3 for collating an inputted character string with a word registered on a check dictionary 2 and a candidate preparing means 6 for outputting the candidate of proper spelling when the character string is not registered on the check dictionary, this candidate preparing means 6 is provided with plural candidate preparation modules 61 to 65 for preparing candidates with respectively different systems and the candidate preparation module 65 for preparing the candidate by replacing one part of the character string with the character string of the same or similar pronounciation to it as one of the candidate preparation models 61 to 65, and the highest priority level is given to the candidate prepared by this candidate preparation module 65. Thus, the candidate for correcting spelling error caused by wrong spelling corresponding to the pronounciation is provided with the highest priority. |
