PURPOSE: To supply a proper amount of lubricant at all times in a device for supplying the lubricant to an image carrier. CONSTITUTION: The solid lubricant 30 is elastically pressed against a rotary roller 29 by means of a compression spring 31. The rotary roller 29 has a center line average height (Ra) of 0.3-0.4μm in surface roughness. A rotary brush 26 is provided in contact with the rotary roller 29 and the photoreceptor 11. By rotating the rotary roller 29 and rotary brush 26 together with the photoreceptor 11, and by holding the proper amount of lubricant 30 on the periphery of the rotary roller 29, the lubricant 30 held on the rotary roller 29 is transferred to the photoreceptor 11 via the rotary brush 26.
