PURPOSE: To transfer picture data or the like with the data communication processor of a different kind by providing an input/output control body to which a data input/output control program corresponding to a specified data communication processor is stored and which can be attached/detached to/from a camera main body. CONSTITUTION: A camera operator inserts a PC card including a new I/O card function control program or an I/O card 15 into a card connector 17. When the I/O card 15 is inserted into the camera, CPU 23 of a camera discriminates the kind of the I/O card 15. The mapping of I/O is executed for the respective cards (LAN, MODEM, SCSI and flash memory are shown), and optimum hardware operation constitution is set from effective operation environment. Then, the I/O card 15 is initialized. At the time of executing an I/O function, CPU 23 protocol-controls the respective I/O cards in accordance with the control program and transmits/receives respective pieces of information on a picture, sound, a status and a command.
