摘要 |
PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium which is less adversely affected by a surface-oxidized layer having an oxidation degree of >=50% of the surface layer part of a magnetic metallic thin film and has an excellent electromagnetic transducing characteristic by specifying the thickness of this surface oxidized layer to <=5% of the overall thickness of this magnetic metallic thin film. CONSTITUTION: In the intermediate part where a nonmagnetic base 5 travels from a feed roll 3 to a take-up roll 4 side, a cooling can 6 of the diameter larger than the diameter of the respective rolls 3, 4 is provided. This can 6 is disposed as to draw out the nonmagnetic base 5 downward and rotates clockwise at a constant speed. The magnetic metallic thin film 8 formed by vapor deposition in a gaseous oxygen introducing atmosphere is formed as a magnetic layer on the nonmagnetic base 5. The thickness of the surface-oxidized layer having the oxidation degree of >=50% of the surface layer part of the magnetic metallic thin film 8 is specified to <=5% of the overall thickness of the magnetic metallic thin film 8. The magnetic recording medium which has excellent magnetic characteristics such as coercive force, is less adversely affected by the surface-oxidized layer and has the excellent electromagnetic transducing characteristics is thereby obtd.
