An apparatus for controlling leakage of a barrier fluid from a dual seal assembly of equipment, such as a pump or a valve, includes a barrier fluid supply arrangement (58) connected to a barrier fluid chamber (32) of the dual seal assembly (16), a pressure itensifier mechanism (56) coupled to a pumpage fluid chamber (26) and the barrier fluid chamber (32) of the dual seal assembly (16) and being operable to maintain the pressure of the barrier fluid at a preset level above the pressure of the process fluid in response to the absence of barrier fluid leakage from the dual seal assembly (16), and a pressure monitoring and control arrangement (60) coupled to the barrier fluid supply arrangement (58) and the pressure intensifier mechanism (56) and being operable to detect and measure the decrease of the barrier fluid below the preset level and to compensate therefor.
