A sliding clasp fastener or chain fastener (11) is sewn around the upper inner area. A heat insulating pocket (10) of flexible material is attached to fastener. The pocket can have pockets of flexible plastics inserted at the top. These accommodate cooling inserts and are then folded over the contents to be cooled. The pocket inserted the rucksack can be arranged not to occupy all the available space, a storage space being left at the bottom. The cooling pocket can have external flexible plastics handles adjustable for height.
