Virtual node file system for computer data system

The computer file system stores files and descriptions with predetermined names. A device generates a node for each file and description. Each virtual node or description node (41, 42, 43, 44) is associated with a file. A device associates a number of description or virtual nodes in a selected sequence to generate a stack (10) where the stack has an upper node (41). A device searches the stack to find a specified name starting from the stack top and returns the node where the name first appears.
