An inner part (2) of the endotracheal tube is made from elastically rigid plastics and is covered by an outer part (3) made from a silicone type of elastic material. The outer elastic tube is sealed to the inner tube at a point (10) near the distal end (21). The inner tube has a groove (4) running down its length which at the distal end stops inside the area (5) which will be inflated as the sealing cuff in the patient's trachea. The groove extends up the tube as far as a valve (8) for inlet and outlet of air. Near the proximal end, the outer tube forms a further cuff which acts as a control cuff when inflated with air from the groove in the inner tube. A conventional connector (7) connects the valve to the ventilator. The tubes are mfd. as endless tubes by extrusion and the groove is formed during the extrusion.
