<p>A method and means for opening a collapsed rectilinear carrier sleeve (B). As the collapsed sleeve (B) is moved through a packaging machine, it is partially opened so that the leading panel (14) extends at an angle to the horizontal. A continuous upward force is then delivered to the leading panel (14) to cause the leading panel (14) to pivot up about its upstream fold line (28) until it reaches the vertical. The collapsed sleeve (B) is partially opened by elevating side flaps (16) connected to an upper panel (12, 14) to cause the upper panel (12, 14) to be elevated. One way of accomplishing this is to cause the upper flaps (16) to ride up over a fixed cam surface (72) while lower flaps (18) connected to a lower panel (20) move under the cam (72) to prevent the lower panel (20) from moving in an upward direction.</p> |
