The method involves the steps of transmitting a prerecorded message to a caller in response to a call, and receiving and storing a message from the caller. A digital sound signal transmitted by the caller is converted into data and passed to a dial buffer unit. A speech connection is retrieved and formed to the received dial number, and a preset number corresponding to a communications terminal of a caller is called. The data in the buffer unit is converted into a digital tone and sent to the terminal, while the data from the buffer unit is stored in the recording equipment.
