A process is disclosed for extracting heteropolycompounds from polymers contaminated with heteropolycompounds, namely polyethers, polyesters or polyether esters. The process is characterised in that the polymers or a solution of polymers are mixed with a compound that contains at least one non-protic heteroatom selected from the group of the central atoms of heteropolyacids and having such a low polarity that its admixture causes the heteropolycompounds to settle as a separate phase. The settled heteropolycompound phase is extracted and the remaining polymer phase is then preferably further purified with a solid adsorbent.
