The helmet is formed as a hard outer shell with a shock-damping insert made of transparent plastics. The insert may be spherical and can comprise a body with a layer formed by bosses protruding towards the wearer's head. Both the body and the layer can be hollow, and filled with a shock-damping medium. Two media with different consistencies can be used. To predetermine the maximum thickness of the spherical body, connecting lips of the same material can be provided between its inside and outside surfaces bearing respectively against the head and the outer shell.
