An inner or outer shell is of a flexible articulated tube (2) of metal or plastics which is joined in a positive and force-fitting manner to a fibre composite material (4). The tube material may be steel, brass or Al or polyamide, polyetherimide, polyethersulphone, or polyetherketone. The fibre composite consists of several fibre layers, each having a unidirectional orientation, which may be parallel or at an angle to each other. Within the fibre composite material is an inner sleeve of thermoplastic material (6). The tubular component may be formed into a complex, 3-dimensional contour. Also claimed is prepn. of lightweight tubular component or hollow section with outer or inner sleeve.
