A hair rinsing compsn. (I) contains (A) cationic germicide of formula (1); (B) quat. ammonium salt cationic polymer or surfactant of formula (2) or (3); and (C) min. 0.5 moles metal chelating agent based on moles of (A) and (B). In the formulae, R<1> is a 8-16C alk(en)yl or gp. of formula (i); R<2>, R<3> = H, (m)ethyl or 6-20C alk(en)yl, but at least one = 6-20C alk(en)yl; R<4> = 8-28C alk(en)yl; R<5> = H, (m)ethyl or 8-28C alk(en)yl; R<6>, R<7> = H or 1-3C (hydroxy)alkyl; R<7>', R<8> = 1-4C (hydroxy)alkyl; R<9>,R<10> = 7-35C alk(en)yl; X = Cl or alkyl phosphate; and Y = halogen or organic anionic gp.. Also claimed is the use of (I) for rinsing hair.
