A phenol tar recovery process comprises: (a) heating a tar stream from a phenol process based on the oxidn. of cumene contg. acetophenone to 275-420[deg]C, (b) cracking the tar and (c) taking the cracked prod. out of the reactor. 50-100 wt.% of the acetophenone is taken from the reactor in the overhead stream, thus increasing the yield of valuable prods. in the overhead stream.
