Process for working up mixts. contg. Zn and Cr, e.g. waste liquor, process baths, electroplating sludge etc., comprises (a) converting the mixt. into an acidic soln., in which the metals are present as di- or tri-valent ions; and (b) passing the soln. through column(s) filled with selective ion exchange resin which binds Zn<2+> but not Cr<3+> ions, giving a Zn-free soln. contg. Cr.
