PURPOSE: To obtain a whisker reinforced ceramic catalyst carrier excellent in thermal shock resistance. CONSTITUTION: This catalyst carrier has a structure formed uniformly dispersing Al2 O3 , Al2 O3 -B2 O3 or SiC whiskers having 0.1-10μm average diameter and 1-200μm average length a matrix having a compsn. consisting of 5-30wt.% CaO, 20-40wt.% Al2 O3 and the balance SiO2 with inevitable impurities or further contg. 0.1-15wt.% at least one of oxides of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, rare earth elements and iron family elements so that the whiskers account for 2-40wt.% of the total amt.
