PURPOSE: A To obtain a new protein related to Machado-Joseph disease(MJD), one of nerve denatured disease of an ill-defined disease, useful for treating MJD, suppressing development of abnormal protein by continuous manifestation of protein related to MJD. CONSTITUTION: This new human MJD-related protein is a polypeptide, containing an amino acid sequence in which an Lys part of an amino acid sequence of formula I is bonded through (G1n) ((n) is an integer of <=150 and Lys may be contained in the sequence) to an Arg part of an amino acid sequence of formula II, a homologue or their fragment, is related to a human Machado-Joseph diseases(MJD), one of nerve denatured diseases of ill-defined disease and is useful for diagnosing and treating MJD. This protein is obtained by screening a cDNA library of a human brain cortex with a probe having a CTG repeat contemporary with a base sequence CAG repeat abundant in a nerve denatured patient and manifesting the prepared DNA by genetic engineering.
