A low profile reactor and a process for the production of calcium peroxide on site at gold or silver extraction sites are provided. The reactor and process are suitable for operation in the confined space found in ore processing lines. The reactor comprises an inlet for quicklime or lime (10), an inlet for water, an inlet for hydrogen peroxide solution (7), a tray (1) having a first, slaking zone (2); one or more baffles (4, 4a) configured to direct slaked lime into a second, mixing zone (5) and a third, output zone (8). |
