PURPOSE: To provide a new compound which is useful as a prophylactic and therapeutic agent for hyperglycemia, hyperlipemia, diabetic complication, arteriosclerosis and the like because of its activity of aldose reductase inhibitor, antihyperglycemic, insulin resistance improvement and antidiabetic complication. CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R<1> is a 1-6C straight or branched alkylene; R<2> is H, nitro; X is formula II or III (A is a 6-10C arylene, a difunctional heterocyclic ring); Y is O, S; Z is 2.4-dioxothiazolidin-5-ylmethyl, 2, 4-dioxooxazolidin-5-ylmethyl], for example, 5-[4-[2-[N-(4-toluenesulfonyl) methylamino]ethoxy] benzyl]-thiazolidine-2,4-dione. This compound is obtained, for example, by reaction of a compound of the formula: X-R<1> -U (U is OH or a halogen) with a compound of formula IV (Z'a-d is protected Z) followed by deprotection. |
