METHOD FOR CULTURING PHOTOSYNTHETIC ORGANISM

PURPOSE: To provide an improved method for culturing an underwater organism having photosynthetic ability such as algae by which the application is effectively made as a fixing technique for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. CONSTITUTION: A photosynthetic organism is cultured while alternately moving a culture solution containing an underwater organism, having the photosynthetic ability and dispersed therein between a light irradiating and a nonirradiating parts. Control is made so as to provide preferably 1-100msec light irradiation time per cycle and 100-1000msec nonirradiation time at (1:1) to (1:1000) ratio of the irradiation to nonirradiation times. Thereby, the culturable amount per unit surface area of a culture tank can be increased to fix a large quantity of carbon dioxide with a high utilization efficiency of light and thereby greatly contribute to the environmental protection of the earth.
