The invention relates to a device for the deceleration of sheets, particularly for the delivery of a sheet-fed printing press, said device comprising at least one brake strap to which a suction device is assigned, said brake strap being connected with a driving facility which generates variable rotational speed. It is provided that the brake strap (3) comprises at least one discrete suction device (8) revolving with said brake strap (3), said suction device (8) acting on a selective partial area of the sheet (2) to be decelerated, and that the remaining section of the brake strap facing the respective remaining area of the sheet format has no or no active suction device (8).
