The device uses a catalytic converter (7) inserted in the exhaust gas line (6) and a secondary air feed line (10), connected to the exhaust line upstream of the catalytic converter and selectively supplied with fuel in dependence on the temp. of the engine exhaust gases. The fuel is supplied to the secondary air feed line via a fuel line (15) containing a blocking valve (17) operated via an electronic control (9) and a dosing jet (16) reducing the fuel pressure.
