The device has a working piston (41) directly operated by an input element (7) and coupled to a second coaxial piston (43) of larger dia., directly controlling the fluid pressure in an operating section. The coupling between the working piston and the second piston is selectively provided by a fluid pressure control (47,53), responsive to a supplied signal representing a monitored vehicle operating parameter. Pref. the parameter signal is used for operating a motor (23) driving an eccentric cam (47) for operation of the second piston.
