The process involves the placing of a layer of coarse wooden material onto a solid base, and the application of a loose heap of shavings onto the top of it. The heap is dried for a limited period, with the moisture from the interior of the heap being drawn off by the longitudinal and transverse convective air flows through the coarse wood layer.
