Peptide derivs. of formula (I) are new; (A-Y-B)n(Mr)mXm-n (I). A-Y-B=amino acid (aa) sequence; A and B=N and C terminal aa respectively; Y=chain of same or different aa, i.e. (1) natural L-alpha- aa (Ala,Val,Leu,Ile,Pro,Trp,Phe,Met,Gly,Ser,Tyr,Thr,Cys,Asn,Gln,Asp, cysteic acid, Glu, psi -carboxy-Glu,Lys,Arg,His, citrulline, homoCys, homoSer, 4-hydroxyPro, 5-hydroxyLys, formyl-Met, ornithine, sarcosine, taurine) or the analogous D cpds. or homologous beta-amino acids, or the residues (a); (2) D or L- alpha -amino acids of formula NH2-CR1R2-COOH, or the homologous beta -aa; R1 and R2=H or up to 10C alkyl or aryl, opt. substd. by OH, NH2, COR3 or SR4; R3=OH, up to 10C alkoxy or aryloxy (opt. substd. by 1 or more OH, NH2 or COOH), NH2 or NRaRb; Ra and Rb=up to 10C alkyl or acyl (opt. substd. by 1 or more OH, NH2 or COOH); R4=H, up to 10C alkyl, or a 5 protecting gp. (e.g. alkali metal ion, 1-6C acyl, benzoyl, hydroxyacetyl, acetamidomethyl etc.; about 40 more specified); R1 and R2 may also be Q-(CH2)p, Me-CH(OH), benzyl, indol-3- ylmethyl, imidazol-4-ylmethyl, 4-hydroxybenzyl, diphenylmethyl or (b); Q=MeS, COOH, NH2, amidino, OH, SH, NH2CO or (HOOC)2CH; p=1-3; q=0-2; M=metal ion of atomic no. 21-32; 37-51; or 56-83; X=ion of an (in)organic acid or base, absent if n=m; n=zero or integer, representing the no. of positive or negative charges on A-Y-B; m=the sum of positive charges on M; r=no. of M ions complexed to A-Y-B.
