The ternary lithium mixed oxide has the general formula: LiyMexCox-1 (where Me, the metal cation, must be from one of gps IIIa, IVa, IIb, IIIb, IVb, VIb, VIII (iron, titanium, aluminium or nickel) and 0 <x <1 (pref. 0.5), 0 < y < 1.2. The components are joined in homogeneous, water or water and alcohol suspension of hydroxide and/or water-soluble metal-salts. This is heated to remove water and further heated to between 500 and 900 deg C to at a rate of 1 to 20 deg C per minute to produce oxide having the desired x-ray properties. A practical example of oxide production is given with materials, quantities temps. and durations. |
