A process for producing the body of whiteware having high strength and excellent thermal impact resistance at a reduced cost, by shaping the raw material mainly comprising: a natural ore material that forms corundum on firing, or a material containing the corundum formed by calcining the ore material; a natural ore material that forms mullite on firing, or a material containing the mullite formed by calcining the ore material; a clayey material; and a sintering aid such as feldspar, nepheline or dolomite, and then firing the shaped material.
