The venting device has a filler point and a venting path between the tank and a filter chamber, where the filter chamber also has an air opening. A valve unit (14) is located on the air opening (11) in the filter chamber. This valve unit only closes when pressure relative to the atmospheric pressure reaches a certain threshold limit. This threshold limit is set as being equal to approximately the maximum pressure which can be produced by fuel entering through the filler point.
