Method and device for sampling a thermoplastic material

The method of withdrawing a sample from a bath of thermoplastic material (3) includes use of a sampling tube (4) which has a cutting edge and is pressed into the reservoir so that it cuts into the material. After withdrawal, the sample is ejected from the sampling tube by using an ejection rod (5) which slides within the sampling tube. The sampling tube and ejection rod are controlled by a piston and cylinder drive (6). The same mechanism is used both to press the sampling tube into the thermoplastic material in order to extract the sample, and to move the ejection rod within the cylinder.
