PURPOSE: To suppress the warpage of a liquid crystal device cosisting of flexible substrates and to improve reliability and display quality. CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal device is provided with the first flexible substrate 3 having a first surface and a second surface and having a transparent electrode 12 and an oriented layer 13 on the second surface and the second flexible substrate 4 having a third surface and a fourth surface and having the transparent electrode 12 and an oriented layer 13 on the third surface. The first flexible substrate 3 and the second flexible substrate 4 are so arranged that the second surface and the third surface face each other. The liquid crystal device having nematic liquid crystals 14 which are arranged between the first flexible substrate 3 and second flexible substrate 4 and are super-twist oriented a first polarizing plate 1 arranged on the first surface side of the first flexible substrate 3 and a second polarizing plate 2 arranged on the fourth surface side of the second flexible substrate 4 is arranged with the first polarizing plate 1 and the second polarizing plate 2 in such a manner that θ is within a range of >=-45 to <=+45 deg. when the angle formed by the transmission axis 5 of the first polarizing plate 1 and the transmission axis 6 of the second polarizing plate 2 is defined as θ.
