PURPOSE: To obtain a ceramic honeycomb having high strength ad high stability under a severe heat cycle by extruding a solid component comprising a lithium aluminosilicate glass powder and a clay additive and a vehicle component to dry and fire the obtained extrudate. CONSTITUTION: An extruded cellular honeycomb ceramic object low in thermal expansion is produced from a thermally crystallizable lithium aluminosilicate glass powder. The green extruded cellular honeycomb object produced by extrusion is dried to remove a volatile vehicle component and the honeycomb object thus dried is fired by melting the glass powder and clay until obtaining a uniform body and heating them to temp. at least sufficient to crystallize the mixture of clay and the glass powder to convert the uniform body to a ceramic honeycomb product low in thermal expansion. |
