PURPOSE: To effectively make the mesh of a contour line between picture elements inconspicuous by the diffusion of the picture elements and to prevent the occurrence of moire when the picture is observed in an out-of-focus state. CONSTITUTION: This picture display device is provided with an LCD panel 1 performing display by linear polarization and having a mosaic picture element pattern, and an optical filter arranged between the LCD panel 1 and an observer side. The optical filter is provided with a double refraction plate 4 separating the respective picture elements of the LCD panel 1 to two points, and a 1/4 wavelength plate 3 converting the linear polarization to circular polarization between the double refraction plate 4 and the surface of the LCD panel 1 on the observer side. Two picture elements are diffused in an optional direction by the double refraction plate 4. |
