<p>PURPOSE: To obtain the polysaccharide in a high yield and in remarkably improved the productivity by tissue-culturing a plant cell capable of producing the polysaccharide, while continuously charging an oxygen-containing gas into a liquid culture medium in a specific optimal oxygen transfer volume coefficient and in a specified dissolved oxygen concentration. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing the polysaccharide by the tissue culture of the cells in a liquid culture medium comprises adding a metal salt to the liquid medium, continuously charging an oxygen-containing gas to the medium so as to give an oxygen transfer volume coefficient of 25-200 and a dissolved oxygen concentration of 5-18ppm, and simultaneously subjecting the callus of a plant (e.g. Polianthes tuberosa L.) capable of producing the polysaccharide to a shaking culture at 150rpm for a week. Thus, the objective polysaccharide can stably be produced in remarkably improved productivity and in a high yield without being affected by natural environments and weathers. A plant hormone such as an auxin, a cytokinin or a gibberellin, is preferably added to the medium used for the culture.</p> |
