<p>PURPOSE: To select a nearby icon even if a button is pressed outside the recognition range of the icon by calculating the distances between plural pieces of icon information and cursor coordinates and determining the icon at the shortest distance. CONSTITUTION: This system consists of a central arithmetic processor 101, an input device 102, a display device 103, an internal storage device 104, and an external storage device 105. The storage devices 104 and 105 stores icon image data for displaying and recognizing icons, icon information on icon display coordinates, icon names, and icon recognition ranges, and cursor coordinates of a pointing device. The central arithmetic processor 101 calculates the distances between icon display position coordinates and cursor coordinates stored in the storage devices 104 and 105 to determine the icon at the shortest distance, and determines an icon selected by a user outside the icon recognition range with the pointing device. Consequently, the icon which is near to the point that the user indicates is selected.</p> |
