PURPOSE: To improve electrostatic charge maintaining property and image quality maintaining property and to prevent the occurrence of unevenness in density and the stain of a background part by using a resin obtd. by crosslinking a resin having alcoholic hydroxyl groups with a compd. having a phenolic hydroxyl group. CONSTITUTION: When core particles are coated with a resin to obtain an electrophotographic carrier, a resin obtd. by crosslinking a resin having alcoholic hydroxyl groups with a compd. having a phenolic hydroxyl group is used as the coating resin. A saponified product of polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetal or polyvinyl alcohol is crosslinked with resol or novolak and used as the coating resin. The stability of a charged state of the resultant electrophotographic carrier, the carrier deterioration preventing property of an electrostatic charge imparting member and the environmental stability of them are improved. The adhesion of the coating resin to the core material is improved and the carrier can withstand high shear at the time of drying a soln.
