PURPOSE: To increase the quantity of light made incident on a light transmission body from a light source and to enhance brightness more as an illumination device as to the illumination device provided with such structure that the light transmission body is combined with the light source and constituted so that uniform surface-like illumination or the illumination obtained by controlling the irradiating direction of the light can be executed. CONSTITUTION: The illumination device is provided with the structure having the light transmission body 2 provided with an incident surface 9, a light transmission area 10 and an emitting surface 13 and the light source means 3 for making a luminous material layer 6 formed on the inside circumferential surface of a transparent tube 5 emit light and giving the radiation of the light. The light source means 3 is provided with a transparent slit part 7 of a prescribed width on the layer 6 and the slit part 7 is arranged at the light source means 3 so as to be faced to the incident surface of the light transmission body 2. Then, the light is efficiently made incident on the light transmission body 2 by the radiation light collectively emitted from the slender slit part 7. |
