PURPOSE: To control the timing for indicating a current position mark suitable for the screen in order to run on a route accurately in safety. CONSTITUTION: An electronic control unit 4 comprises a section for calculating a route upon setting a destination, and a section for controlling the route guide based on a calculated route. The route guide control section comprises a section for receiving current position detection information from a current position detector 2 and a guide data based on the route information from an information memory 3 and calculating a residual distance for indicating the current position mark. The current position mark is advanced from the position of its own vehicle based on the residual distance for display thus controlling the display. The residual distance for display is calculated, depending on the width of an intersecting road, according to a formula; (the residual distance for display=the distance from current position to the center of intersection)-(the width of intersecting road). With such navigation system, a driver can run through a guide intersection comfortably after confirming a current position mark and can turn to the right or left accurately. |
