The object of the invention is to provide a solution for the fabrication of large, hollow bodies having relatively thin walls which allows expensive moulds and ancillary equipment to be dispensed with. This object is achieved by the hollow body being formed around a prefabricated core which is encased by a very thin layer of plastic and derives its firmness from vacuum inside and atmospheric pressure outside. Around said hard core, the body defined by its specific shape is formed either manually or non- manually. The invention can be applied particularly advantageously to the fabrication of the so-called toroidal buffers corresponding to US Patent 4,887,398.
