The invention comprises a clamping device which is part of an accessory which can be fitted on the tow hook of cars. The clamping device is pushed horizontally over the tow hook, and, by simply rotating one vertical bolt with a clamping cup downwards, the ball is clamped securely between the cup and the ring beneath it. The unit is designed in such a way that, when the bolt is tightened, the ball is approximately 3/4 enclosed, with the result that an optimum clamping effect is achieved with the 3 m/m play in the top of the cup and in the bottom of the ring. Furthermore, the clamping device is supported on the vertical section of the tow hook, specifically in such a way that the accessory, in the fitted position, cannot tilt away downwards or sideways. By pushing the supplied locking strip behind the ball and locking it with a padlock, it is virtually impossible to lose the accessory while driving, and the accessory also serves as an antitheft precaution.
