The electric fryer has an open receptacle (1), a removable bowl (2) that fits inside the receptacle and holds oil to serve as a frying bath (6), and removable unit (8) with a block supporting an electric element (10) that is immersed in the oil in the frying bath. A frying basket (22) is placed above the element. A controller (13) is incorporated in the block (8) carrying the element. The controller fits in a recess (4) formed on the top edge of the outer receptacle. The controller includes a switch (25) that requires correct positioning of the basket and the controller if it is to close. The bath must also be in place, pressing down on a rocker arm (30) to activate the switch.
